The CHaracterizing ExOPlanet Satellite (CHEOPS) was launched in December 2019 and has started the science operations in April 2020. CHEOPS is the first "small-class" mission of ESA and it is devoted to the detailed characterization of planets in known systems in order to understand the processes of planetary formation and evolution, to identify valuable targets for spectroscopic characterisation, and to probe the atmospheres of hot-Jupiters (phase curve measurements), studying physical mechanisms and the efficiency of energy transport. During this talk we will present the main scientific goals of the mission and some early results obtained with the telescope, demonstrating the performance achieved with the instrument.
