Solutions of the two-body problem as an Astronomer
1. Physikalisches Institut, Universität zu Köln
Managing relationships where the partners are building their careers in science is no doubt hard. I will share tips and tricks on what is likely to work and what isn't, and discuss the typical challenges such couples face while coordinating their complicated personal and professional lives. Based on this, I will suggest ways the community can support alternative lifestyle choices. In particular, I will make the case for the normalization of flexible working hours and home office, and I will argue that personal happiness and well-being is not something one should be expected to compromise on or sacrifice to have a chance of a successful career in Astronomy – these should be regarded as the prerequisite of success instead.
